11th World Harp Congress & Festival in Vancouver this July
July 24 – 30, 2011
This July, the biggest harp festival in the world is coming to Vancouver. The World Harp Congress & Festival, usually held in Europe, is being held this year, for the first time, in Canada — July 24 to 30.
CMC Associate Composer Srul Irving Glick, Kelly-Marie Murphy, Glenn Buhr, R. Murray Schafer, Marjan Mozetich, Stephen Chatman, Jocelyn Morlock, Michael Conway Baker‘s pieces will be featured in the concerts. Furthermore, on July 25, R. Murray Schafer together with Judy Loman will give a master class The Crown of Ariadne at the St. Andrews-Wesley Church.
During this week-long event, more than 100 of the world’s top harpists will perform. Plus 800 participants are expected to attend from 40 different countries. It is being hailed as a gathering of the world’s greatest harpists.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to hear the world’s leading Irish harpists, Scottish harpists, classical harpists, baroque harpists, jazz harpists, South American harpists, Chinese harpists …. and the list goes on and on. There are numerous concerts and styles of music being presented.
The World Harp Congress & Festival is centered downtown Vancouver. Concerts, workshops and master classes run daily for Congress registrants. Each evening there are classical and jazz concerts open to the public at the Orpheum Theatre, Vogue Theatre or St. Andrew’s Wesley Church. The concerts feature the world’s top classical harpists (some playing concertos with members of the VSO) as well as top jazz and world harpists.
